Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 19, 2026
Asfar is a mobile application produced by Areen. This policy explains what information Asfar collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Asfar iOS application and the backend services it communicates with.
What We Collect
Account identity
When you sign in with Apple or Google, the sign-in provider returns to us your email address and (if you allow it) your display name. We store these so we can recognise you across sessions and devices. We never see your Apple or Google password — sign-in is handled by the platform.
Book photographs
When you photograph a page of a book inside Asfar, the image is uploaded to our backend for text extraction, translation, and narration. The image is stored in our object storage (Google Cloud Storage) and is associated with your account. You can delete any book and its uploaded images from inside the app at any time.
Generated text and audio
The text we extract and the audio we synthesise from your uploaded pages are also stored against your account so you can return to them. They are not shared with other users.
Purchase records
When you buy a credit pack inside the app, Apple sends us a signed receipt. We verify the receipt against Apple's servers and record the credit balance. We do not see your payment method or card details.
Technical data
Our servers receive standard request metadata when you use the app: the request URL, the time, an authentication token tied to your account, and your device's IP address (visible to the network layer). We use this only to operate and debug the service. We do not run third-party analytics SDKs and we do not use any advertising network.
What We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your contacts, calendar, location, microphone, health data, motion data, or any other sensor data.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
How We Use Your Information
- To run the core features of the app: extract text from your photographs, translate it, synthesise audio, and let you listen.
- To keep your library, bookmarks, and last-read positions in sync across your devices.
- To operate the credit-pack system (recording purchases, deducting credits when you use paid features).
- To respond to support requests you send us.
Who We Share It With
We share the minimum data needed to provide the service, only with these processors:
- Google Cloud — hosts our object storage (book images, audio) and our text-to-speech, OCR, and language-model services. Your content is sent to these services only when processing your request.
- OpenAI — used for some translation and text-extraction steps. Page text and images may be sent to OpenAI's API. OpenAI's enterprise policy is that API content is not used to train their models.
- Apple — receives purchase receipts for verification and routes Sign in with Apple identity tokens.
- Google Sign-In — verifies your Google identity token if you sign in with Google.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your account data, library, and uploaded content are kept as long as your account exists. You can delete individual books and their content from inside the app at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, open Settings → Account → Delete Account inside the app, or email us at privacy@areen.ai. We process deletion requests within 30 days.
Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Access the data we hold about you (email us).
- Correct your display name from inside the app.
- Export your library content (email us).
- Delete your account and all associated data (in-app or by email).
- Withdraw consent and stop using the service.
Children
Asfar is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have, please email us and we will delete it.
Security
All network communication between the Asfar app and our backend is encrypted with TLS. Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain. Object storage access is controlled by short-lived signed URLs scoped to your account.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy materially, we will update the "Last updated" date and notify you in-app on next launch. Continued use after a material change constitutes acceptance.
